The Heart of the Story

Touring Performance • Dance

Through a dynamic variety of dances, audiences will see first hand how movement can tell stories in ways that transcend the limits of words. Whether a choreographer is expressing their own narrative or the audience interprets things their own way, dance can make everyone feel something different. Featuring rotating pieces from the company’s repertoire, this show highlights where different dances come from and the stories they tell. Selections of work may include:

American Catracho by Wilfredo Rivera and Joe Cerqua – This expansive suite explores immigration – from the trauma of leaving a birthplace to the shock of arriving in a new one and the challenge of making it home.

Sin Fronteras by Wilfredo Rivera and Clarice Assad – a movement narrative celebrating diversity.

Untitled New Piece by Pharez Whitted and Joshua Ishmon – a piece exploring the impact of the people and environment around us on who we become.

Untitled New Piece by Joe Cerqua and Monique Haley – a piece exploring a modern African American experience through traditional African modes.
